Here’s where to find tantalising authentic Italian food in Thailand

Review_Portobello

You are led to Portobello Restaurant by your subconscious. Before you know, it your decision is made up for you. The design of the restaurant is sensational. You are met with a very inviting space. Then the aromas of the pizzas hit you and it is very hard not to find yourself faltering at the doorstep. You are completely sold when you are greeted by your host and you fall into his mercy and are guided into and through one of those meals you will never forget.

Western food is always desired after being in SE Asia for a while. Another variation of carbs other than rice or noodles seems like heaven. Portobello is a mediterrean food haven with mouth-watering pizzas and pastas.

From the moment you fall into the grasps of Portobello Restaurant, you receive outstanding service – the best in Koh Tao – by its passionate and helpful team. The staff willingly guide you through the menu and help you with your selection when you are unsure. Once you’ve ordered (in my case a carbonara pasta – a guilty pleasure of mine) I was envious of the pizzas being carried to tables around me.

This envy didn’t last long as our meals were quickly presented to us again with the passionate service we received when entering the restaurant. More pricey than other Koh Tao restaurants it is definitely worth the indulgence for the service alone.

My carbonara was very peppery so be warned if you are not a pepper fan. Fortunately for me it was exactly the meal and balance of flavours I was craving. We also ordered a serving of garlic bread to share. There was more than enough to share between two people. The garlic bread was mouth-watery but extremely salty. So both meals were at the extreme end of salt or pepper usage but still delicious.

Overall, the experience backed by the food made this restaurant the perfect place to delve into an indulgent western food treat. Ready to tackle more of SE Asia’s local cuisine now.
