A little taste of heaven in Koh Tao

Review_New Heaven Cafe

The many flip flops and sandals in the doorway must mean it is good. I’ve been on Koh Tao a whole 15 minutes and am being led to what is supposed to be the best place for breakfast in Sairee. A friend of a friend, essentially a stranger, is leading the way. A stranger is a new friend to be and I already trust him to decide where we eat.

The fan overhead feels cool over my body as outside heats up after the morning monsoonal rains. After Bangkok prices, I’m happily surprised that the menu in this up-market-looking cafe are so reasonable. Scrambled eggs with bacon and toast only 100 THB – a bargain. Wanting to indulge myself after such a long journey by bus and ferry to Koh Tao from Bangkok, I also place an order for a Mango Mania fruit smoothie (minus the banana) another 70 THB.

As if she is telepathic, the waitress comes to take our order as soon as we’ve decided what we want. This occurs every visit to the cafe. Order placed, the staff jump into action, maintaining a high standard of service and quality of food every visit.

With three different WIFI networks to choose from I am able to get online and update family and friends that I have arrived as a waited momentarily until my food is served. If I was impressed so far with the choice of cafe, I am even more in love with the place as I savour every mouthful of my breakfast and enjoy every sip of my smoothie, not wanting it to end. I have found my morning breakfast spot on Koh Tao.

There is always a constant supply of good WIFI at New Heaven Cafe and often I find people slowly sipping there way through a coffee whilst on their laptops. Many other travellers make long awaited calls home with WIFI unpredictable in most other places in town.

I’m not a coffee drinker (I know, I know…) but word on the street it is one of the best on the island, but is similar priced to a nice refreshing beer and more expensive than a fresh fruit smoothie.
