Hiking isn’t for everyone, but it should be! A hike doesn’t have to reflect a hard slog through barren or overbearing nature or an extreme physical feet. It can be a stroll through the Peak District in search of Mr Darcy, or a casual hike through the mountain region of Chiang Mai.

Here are 8 reasons why you should take up hiking:

    It’s good for the mind

Getting outside and walking through nature is good for your wellbeing, so soak in the fresh air as well as peace of mind. So why not take nature’s very own happy pill?

  1. Does my butt look big in this?

In addition to mind clearing, hiking through nature is good exercise which means that you won’t ever have to worry about buying bigger jeans.

  1. Breathtaking moments

Can you ever get tired of a great view? Hiking through the landscapes of the world offers many “ahhh” moments. No two trails are the same, so you’ll never get bored. Even if you don’t like walking, you’ll soon realise it is totally worth it.

  1. Wildlife encounters

Why pay to go to the zoo when you can experience wildlife free? Although snakes, spiders and Australia’s other deadly creepy crawlers no longer phase me. It’s always a magical moment when you get up close and personal with wildlife. However, I’m still a little uncertain about how I’ll react when I encounter my first bear or mountain lion. It will be an epic adrenaline rush, that’s for sure!

  1. Everyone likes it cheap

With the exception of the occasional National Park fee, hiking is essentially free. All you need is a good pair of shoes and you’re all set. Not only do you get to explore nature, but you can save money while you do it so you can travel longer and cheaper.

  1. Hiking people are happy people

Hikers are happy humans. By joining the global hiking community, you’re joining a tribe of awesome explorers and adventurers. There’s something about the outdoors that brings out the best in people, so you’ll be surrounded by good people always.

Are you good with a map?

There’s no greater way to develop you’re navigation skills than hiking through the wilderness. Not only do you get to practice using a map, but you’ll also develop a natural sense of direction. This way, next time you travel, you won’t be at risk of getting severely and dangerously lost. Instead you can intentionally get lost and wander the streets knowing you can find your own way home.

  1. Always somewhere new to explore

Although the world has no shortage of places to visit, when you become a hiker an abundance of trails will be calling your name and you’ll get to experience a whole new world.

It’s time to get out and explore the world for real! Hope to see you out there…
